Yahoo Sports

Platform product owner for Android and iOS Yahoo Sports App. Squad lead for scores, the live experience and utility.

As a principal product manager at Yahoo Sports, I am currently the platform product owner for Yahoo Sports app across Android and iOS. I also lead utility across web and mobile, which includes any page or module that touches scores, standings, player, team or other utility data. I came in and redefined processes, added documentation across onboarding team members, new and existing features and improved ways of working across the teams. Simultaneously, moved our product and teams forward balancing competitive, user feedback and analytics, as well as a little creativity, to align and drive us toward our business goals and OKRs. Becoming an implementation expert for analytics, my input is also sought out by Sports and Fantasy team members because of my vast sports knowledge as a user and observer of the industry. I’m investing in and growing our associate product team members as we shift into pods (squads) and workstreams with the guidance and empowerment to accomplish their feature set, roadmaps and goals by tackling the biggest customer problems, in order to measure and iterate.

Scores - Content Treatment

Customer feedback, research, user behavior data, competitive analysis had led us to the understanding that we need to improve the relationship between scores and content (articles and videos) in a meaningful way. By creating a content treatment within score cells (scores row), we were able to enhance the user experience, add value and give context to the scores customers digest. Tapping on this new row will lead a customer to the appropriate content, article or video, associated with the score. Note: ‘UPSET ALERT’ in screenshot for reference.

Live Activities - iOS

  • In order to meet customers where they are, and add value, there is a need to add platform specific features that enhance the UX

  • Adding Live Activities created additional engagement of ~10% on Fantasy, goal is higher for Sports due to utility being the primary use case, 15-20%. Retention to be measured seasonally
